ZACH WEDER — AUSTRALIA
Born February 19, 2005 and died May 15, 2005
Late-onset
Mother's GBS Status: Not tested
Gestational Age: Full term
Age Harmed: 12 weeks old
Zach was born healthy after a long traumatic birth via emergency c-section. He was a beautiful baby boy but quite unsettled. On my husband's birthday Zach woke making odd noises but nothing alarming, We took him to the GP who advised he was fine. A few hours later my husband noticed a tiny sepsis spot on his toe. We rushed him to hospital and by the time we got there he was covered in the rash and was having seizures. After a long night emergency staff managed to get Zach into ICU and continue to treat him with antibiotics but with no improvement. By morning he was sent for a brain scan where our fears came true. Significant damage. A few hours later he passed away. The Doctors treated him for meningitis but did not know it was GBS late-onset. I will still never have the answers as to how or why this happened. I miss him everyday. We now have a three year old boy.
