My son was 2 weeks shy of 2 months when he got sick. He was really fussy, tired, and ended up throwing up. We were first time parents so we weren't sure what was going on. Decided to take him to Children's Hospital & Med Center. When we got there he wasn't breathing.
Once they got him intubated and stable, they moved him to the PICU. Later that day, they told us his diagnosis--late-onset group B strep. He spent a week in the PICU, sedated, hooked up to numerous machines including a breathing machine to help him breathe. After that week he was moved to the recovery floor. Group B Strep almost took my son's life. Everyone needs to be aware that passing it on during delivery is not the only way babies can get it.
