My baby was born at 30 weeks gestation and developed late-onset GBS at 3 weeks old. She was also septic and had pneumonia with GBS. She spent 10 days on a ventilator. This entire time she was in the NICU. She is a surviving twin -- her brother died in utero as a result of intrauterine growth restriction. I have an autoimmune disease that caused the pregnancy complications. Prior to delivery I was given two steroid shots to mature Jenna's lungs. I had her via a scheduled C-section. Now as a result of the meningitis Jenna has shunted hydrocephalus. She has two shunts in place due to loculated hydrocephalus. She is doing great with no cognitive or physical deficits. She is quite outgoing and very bright.

Jenna's mother is a Registered Nurse and shares her story with other nurses at New Nursing Orientation. The nurse taking care of Jenna that day in the NICU saved her life.
