I found out I was pregnant on March 28th, 2008. It was my 2nd child and I was so excited. I was even more excited the day I found out I was having a little boy because I had already had a little girl. They were going to be close in age and my life felt so complete.

GBS was found in my urine at a 16 week normal doctors appointment. They gave me some antibiotics and told me that I would also be given antibiotics through an IV in labor and delivery and not to worry because it was common in women.

November 27th 2008....Thanksgiving morning, my water broke. I was so scared but excited at the same time as any mother would be. I was told not to worry about the GBS because I was already given meds for it. So it was not on my mind at all. I gave birth to my little guy that night and he seemed like a perfect, healthy 8 pound baby.

About 2 hours after I had him I was trying to relax and rest and I started getting really cold and I spiked a fever that was so out of control....I can just remember the nurses' faces. They looked as terrified as I felt. I started hemorrhaging and because of that I had to have two blood transfusions. My son should have been treated for GBS because of my fevers alone..... he should have at least been tested. But he was not.

My son died from viral pnemonia and sepsis at 16 days old because of the hospitals laziness to just test my son. I have experienced so much pain over the last year it's become almost unbearable. Its so hard to get up everyday and face that this could have been prevented.... I was reassured that things would be ok and that they were not a big deal.....but they were.

I miss my little boy so much and the more I research about GBS and other parents who know my pain firsthand.... the more I believe it needs to be made aware to everyone. GBS is SERIOUS.
