My son was born at 37 weeks gestation. He had no symptoms of GBS. I had tested negative for GBS. My water was ruptured at 8:00 AM. I then developed a fever after 18 hours of labor and had to have a c-section. My son was left with me in my hospital room then was taken to intensive care. I was told they tested him for GBS and he was positive. The doctor told me they rarely test for GBS and I was lucky they caught it early. He spent 3 weeks in the NICU and was treated with antibiotics. My son Ethan is now going to be 3 in April. He is healthy and I am grateful that he survived. I really think they should test infants at the time of birth.
