ANTHONY JR. — USA
Lived October 31, 2007

Prenatal-onset

Mother's GBS Status:
Not tested
Gestational Age: 20 weeks
Age harmed: GBS caused his mother to dilate two days before he was born prematurely.

I was 21 yrs old and pregnant with my first child (a boy). His name is Anthony Jr. but we nicknamed him Boss. I went to my perinatal doctor for a regular checkup. My husband, my mother and I went into the room. The nurse did an ultrasound. We saw him smile (it was my mom's first time seeing the baby through a 2d ultrasound) so joked about him. The nurse then did a transvaginal ultrasound. There she discovered that at 20 weeks pregnant I was dilating. I was rushed to the hospital where I stayed 2 days. I went into labor on October 31, 2007. The nurse informed me that, since his lungs weren't developed enough, NICU would not come down to try and resuscitate him. We held him. He smiled (he was a happy baby). We took pictures with and of him, but most importantly we bonded with him and did everything possible to make sure he was comfortable. My son lived for 3 hrs, but forever he will live in our hearts. I was never aware of GBS or the harm that it can do. Since then I have joined a GBS group. They are very supportive and very encouraging. My prayers go out to all who are suffering from this dangerous disease.
