We had a perfectly normal and happy pregnancy. We passed our due date and were eagerly awaiting the birth of our first child. For a couple of days I hadn't felt him move, but I thought it was because of the Braxton-Hicks contractions and his position.
My husband and I labored at home for 17 hours and then went to the hospital. When we arrived they couldn't find his heartbeat. I delivered our son, Alejandro 12 hours after we checked into the hospital.
We did order an autopsy and the results came back that he had died of a Group B Strep infection. I tested positive at 36 weeks and somehow it passed through the membrane. My amniotic sac was broken minutes before the birth.
Our lives have been forever changed by the loss of our son. We are forever thankful for the beautiful pregnancy that we had, for the time we had to labor at home, and for the short time we spent with Alejandro.
