AURORA LILLY GREENE — USA
GBS survivor

Early-onset

Mother's GBS Status:
Tested positive
Gestational Age: 38 weeks
Age harmed: Newborn at 38 weeks gestation

Aurora was born @ 1:25pm and appeared perfectly healthy. I was given antibiotics for Strep B during delivery so I assumed that was not an issue. Five hours later a nurse that was checking in on us told me that my daughter looked pale, gray and ill so I was told she would have to go to the nursery to be checked and to stay over night with heat lamps. I was very upset not to have her with me but I wanted her to be okay. I was told the following day that her x-rays showed she had severe pneumonia and she needed to have 3-5 days of antibiotics and would have to remain in the hospital. I was discharged the following day, went home to an empty nursery, and cried for days. I was then told she would need a lumbar puncture to check for meningitis. I couldn't even stand to think of my tiny baby girl getting a needle in her back. :( I was then told that she had to remain in the hospital a full 7 days to finish the antibiotics. She finally was able to come home on Mother's Day. It's been 3 weeks and I still worry about any possible side affects. My pediatrician told me that many people are unaware how deadly this is and that Aurora could have easily died the first night. I thank God there was an angel watching over her...

I'm sorry for all of the losses and injuries I have read about on this site. I want to thank everyone who took the time to post their story.

— Michelle Bonacci, FL, USA

Aurora's mother is presently looking into GBS awareness.
